Weird shit's happening. People are turning into yellow-eyed monsters. Others are fighting for their lives. The world is fucked. But Mireille Chester's telling of it is awesome. Trust me when I say, you need to read this book.
On what should have been a great day, Gabby finds herself minus a boyfriend, a roomie and a peaceful and safe existence. What follows is a high octane race to stay alive while they mystery slowly unfolds.
Within this fun and fast story are well-rounded, three dimensional characters. Each one is unique and real and you'll quickly find a favorite you'll root for (and sorry in advance if that doesn't work out for you - this is zombie territory, after all).
The action is quick and grips you from the start. Mireille Chester does an amazing job of keeping hearts thumping as her characters struggle to overcome some incredible odds outside while trying to keep everything together within their safe-house Yes, there's more drama than just the "oh my God, the zombie's eating my brains!" In the same vein as The Walking Dead (without the clueless mother screaming for Carl to get in the house), these unprepared-for-the-zombie-apocalypse folks have their hands full with the demons some of them face. Gabby and Lane, her partner-in-crime, have taken in kids with major issues (drugs, booze, crime) and help them become well-adjusted individuals. How much fun that is when the walkers are not trying to break in.
This is an incredible novel, filled with tense, edge-of-your-seat action, heartfelt, scenes of weepiness and a snarky, biting wit that will have you bouncing through emotion like you're off meds.
4 out of 5. Now go, read.

The man looked up to the ceiling. "Your mother knows I'm talking to you. She's very upset. Max, please. You need to hide."
Freak storms, changing climates... they're all proof that global warming is starting to change our planet. It was only a matter of time before Mother Nature got upset with the damage we were causing. What we never could have anticipated, was how she was planning to get rid of her problem.
