Out there right now, this very moment, in this country (that would be USA for those who didn’t realize where I hail from), there is a child who is being persecuted, bullied, abused and treated like garbage on the side of the road… by the people who share genes with him. Consider that for a second or two.  And now allow that rage building in your belly to come roaring out in a string of vulgarities. It’s cool, I’ll wait. Done? Okay, great.

How can someone be so cruel? And to their own child? It boggles my mind that you can one day look at that little boy with all the love you can hold one day and the next (after hearing him say in a shaking and breaking voice that he is gay) swell with hate so unnatural that it can lead to a coronary. That poor boy.

Yet this sort of thing happens all the time. Children finally find in inside them to tell their parents, the ones who have spent their lives loving and protecting and swearing they’d always love them, the truth about who and what they are and bam!… suddenly they’re no longer deserving of love or respect or a kind word.

What is wrong with this world? How can someone just turn on their child? Is it religion? Are we so consumed with the words of an old man in a funny hat that we put someone else’s bigoted point-of-view before our own blood? Yes, at least partially. The fact that anyone can believe that all all-powerful, all-loving and ever forgiving deity would create a sentient race his their own image, give them free will and say love everyone around would follow it up with …but hate the fags defies all logic. But that is what is preached. And families are destroyed by it.

Any other theories out there? Feel free to share. Please. I want to understand. I want to know why a person will spit on their child for liking a different body part. I want to know why a person thinks it’s okay to turn a child away. I want to know how you can throw your child out of their home and still think you in any way resemble a good parent. You’re a failure. And your child is stuck paying for your sins.

So now, whatever the root of his parents’ bigotry is, this poor boy finds himself homeless. And he ends up in the system? That’s no guarantee that his life will improve any. Shockingly (and I say that without a hint of sarcasm) there are foster parents and social workers that discriminate and hate in the same way his parents did. People who claim to want to save the children will send back, or even refuse to take in the first place, youth of the non-straight variety.

Because, you know, gay kids don’t deserve to be safe, warm and cared for. Remember, hate the fags… even the young ones.

I’m not saying the system is perfect; far from it. What I am saying is that is it that much harder on gay kids. Even foster parents (and birth parents for that matter) who are wonderful to straights are the polar opposite to gays.

Again, I’m thinking religion has something to do with this. Not all, but a good chunk. Amazing, considering so many religious folk are actually open-minded and give a half a damn about their neighbors. But when you mix ignorance with blind faith… well, I think you get the picture.

So what can be done for this poor boy who finds himself rejected at every turn?

Help. You, you and you. No, you don’t need to adopt him or the many others out there like him. Speak up. Make it known what is going on out there. And help in the fight for human rights. After all, if the roadblocks placed before grown-folk gays were removed from the adoption process than maybe this kid could find a happy home… just with two mommies or two daddies instead of one of each. The same can be said for straight kids looking for a home. No reason they can’t be loved and raised and taught by Harry and Steve. Or maybe just Natalie. Yea, singles raising a child. Yet another way to get these kids in need into a home.

Isn’t that what Jesus really tried to teach? Take care of those in need?

Now, I don’t worship Jesus of Nazareth but I do believe he was a wise man born before his time (which, if you’re wondering, is far beyond the now) and if I was able (financially and all) I would adopt this kid. Hell, I’d adopt a whole brood of ’em. Send me your gay, your bi, your questioning youth. Every child deserves a home and one of my dreams is to be able to provide just that. Straight children would, of course, be welcome but with the disproportionate number of LGBTQ youth out there longing for the security, only a loving home can give there is a dire need for a place like the one I envision. That is one of the reasons I write. One day, my chosen profession will allow me to take in these needy kids and make sure they have a safe haven from the cold cruelty of the world. And I know I’m not the only one who wants to help; there are so many wonderful people out there who already are doing all they can. To those people, I say thank you.

There can be no rest when it comes to a child’s well being.  Something has to be done to help them now before time runs out. Parents need to stop being so cruel to their children, fosters need to stop being heartless to those placed in their care and we as a nation need to step up and do whatever is necessary to save our future generations from giving up.

Will is an author and artist and producer (it’s only one indie short film but it’s on IMDB.com so it totes counts!) and founder of fetchentertainment.com and pain in the ass. He rather opinionated and has no problem sharing his thoughts on a variety of topics from the freakshow that was Election 2016 (how tf did Trump freaking win!?) to the importance of matching that belt to those shoes. He adores penguins and has a maniacal plan to use an army of them to take over the world and crown himself Emperor of All That Is (though he’d be happy with the Winter Russian Palace in what he would rename Mine!-Mine!-Mine!) but until then enjoys hiding away in his apartment and writing all sorts of tales that would worry that cokehead Sigmund Freud (really, we should believe he snorted for science!?) and drawing pictures of his creations.
