Welcome to the Meet My Main Character Blog Tour, started by Debra Brown. I was invited by Nate Philbrick. You should check out his entry to learn about his Daniel Black. Go on, I’ll wait. All set? Awesome!
What is the name of your character? Is he real of fictional?
Rylan Sinclair and he is completely fictional.
When and where is the story set?
His story occurs in a small New England town in the nowish.
What should we know about him?
Rylan’s story is marked by tragedy; his mother was murdered before his eyes the same night he was brutally raped. In the year since, he has learned who his real friends are and who are despicable pieces of shit that need a Chris Brown to the face. But, because he is able to retain that part of him that makes him a good person, he shies away from confrontation until pushed too far. Even then, he’s far kinder than I would be.
What is the main conflict for him during the story?
Aside from dealing with the fallout from his attack in both himself and his personal life, there is a serial killer stalking him and his friends – and he doesn’t even realize it. I know, some people would say it’s a strange combination but many characters in slashers are more than one dimensional cutouts and have some sort of trauma in their past affecting them during the murder spree. Sydney Prescott, anyone?
What is the personal goal of the character?
He wants to be himself again. He wants to feel happy and safe and clean again. Also, he wants to not die.
Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?
It’s called Innocence Lost. And I’ve pretty much described its main storyline up there.
When can we expect the book to be published?
When it’s ready. Hopefully, by year’s end.
Amazing writers and good friend, Mireille Chester. Mireille is the author of The Chosen Trilogy, The Witteck Chronicles and Angered Seasons, among other fantastic tales. You can learn more about her on her blog.
